What Type of Fencing Do We Offer?
Over the years, we’ve built and installed a wide range of fencing styles across Newport, Torfaen, Caerphilly, Monmouthsire and surrounding areas. Here are the most popular choices:
Feather edge fencing
Slat fencing
Hit and miss fencing
Picket fencing
Ranch style fencing
Panel fencing
Venetian fencing
Each style has its own character, benefits, and price point. So, how do you choose the right one for your garden?
Things to Consider When Choosing a Fence?
Here are a few key things to keep in mind:
How much privacy you’d like
Your budget
Longevity and durability
The overall look and feel you’re after
The layout or slope of your garden
Wind exposure and ground conditions
Let’s walk you through each type so you can see what might work best for you.
Feather Edge Fencing
This is one of the most traditional and versatile styles out there. Feather edge (or close board) fencing is built to fit your space, making it ideal for both flat and sloped gardens. Boards overlap each other for strength and privacy, and you can add a neat frame on top for a finished look.
Feather edge is available in custom builds or as pre-made panels. Panels can be fixed to wooden or concrete posts and finished with gravel boards if needed.
In short: A solid, reliable all-rounder with an average cost to match.
Slat Fencing
Looking for something modern and strong? Slat fencing might be for you. It’s made from thicker boards, spaced evenly apart - usually with a 1-inch gap (but this can be adjusted). That small gap allows air to flow, making it a great choice for windier gardens.
Slats can also be installed in a “hit and miss” style - alternating boards on both sides - for added visual interest and privacy without completely blocking airflow.
Worth noting: More material means a slightly higher cost, but it’s a long-lasting option that looks great.

Picket Fencing
Perfect for smaller gardens or creating a welcoming front boundary, picket fencing has a classic, cottage garden charm. It’s lower in height (typically 2.5–4.5 feet) and works beautifully on sloped or uneven ground.
We often install this in family-friendly areas - like play zones, pet spaces, or even pub gardens.
Pricing sits mid-range, as while the boards are thick, the overall height is usually lower.
Ranch Style Fencing
Ranch fencing is a budget-friendly, open-style option that’s great for marking boundaries without closing off the view. With horizontal rails and sturdy posts, it suits both flat and sloped gardens and handles wind well, too.
It’s not as widely used these days, but still does the job for certain spaces like front gardens or dividing larger outdoor areas.
Best for: Clear boundaries on a budget.

Panel Fencing
Panel fencing gives you a huge range of styles - from simple larch lap panels to modern designs like Venetian or decorative woven panels.
You can install panels using timber or concrete posts. For sloping gardens, concrete gravel boards can be recessed to help keep things level.
Pricing varies widely depending on the panel you choose, but this option can be both stylish and practical with the right design.
Venetian Fencing
Venetian fencing has become a real favourite for garden makeovers, especially when aesthetics are key. With clean horizontal lines and optional screening for seating areas or pergolas, this design brings a modern edge to your garden.
Available in made-to-measure builds or as panels, this style works best in gardens with a flatter layout. It can still work on slopes - with some clever use of gravel boards.
Best for: Stylish outdoor spaces where design is just as important as function.
