During October, we undertook some installation of lawn turf, for some lovely customers in Caerleon, Newport. They were previous customers, for whom we installed made to measure timber fencing back in 2014. They were pleased with our work back then and so called upon our services again, as is often the case.
We also installed a picket fence around their garden this year too, which you will see in the photos. But the subject of this blog is the turf... We only install the real deal as we have environmental concerns about the fake stuff. We could have made a lot of money, if we had gone ahead and become fitters of Astroturf, as it did become quite popular, but I have noticed it's not so popular now. The real thing is so much better!
Autumn is a good time to lay real, quality garden lawn turf as the weather is cooler, so there is not so much stress on the grass as the roots bed in. We advise for daily watering for the first couple of weeks, which is great at this time of year as often the weather will take care of that for you. We also advise on not mowing the lawn for around 6 weeks and a bit longer if possible, just going over the top lightly with a strimmer to begin with. Then during growing season, mowing the lawn once a week or once per fortnight, will keep it in a lovely manageable condition. And the smell of freshly cut grass is amazing and pretty much guaranteed to put you in a cheery mood.
Below you can see, to begin with the area was patchy grass with some weeds. This was all cleared, along with roots systems, into a skip.
Next we shoveled in and leveled off a good amount of quality top soil.
And finally, in came the turf!
The area was all washed down and left clean and tidy and our customers were super happy.
